Reception of Holy Communion

In April, Bishop William F. Medley informed pastors at the 78 diocesan parishes that he intended to restore the option of receiving Holy Communion on the tongue and Holy Communion under both the species of bread and wine. This change takes effect on the Feast of Corpus Christ, June 18-19, 2022. In his letter to pastors, Bishop Medley indicated that each individual pastor could decide whether or not to implement these changes now or in the future.

The timing of this restoration is of significance as the Feast of Corpus Christi marks the beginning of a three-year Eucharistic Revival for the Catholic Church in the United States.
