Engaged Encounter

Upcoming Weekends:

  • April 13-14, 2024
  • October 19-20, 2024

Catholic Engaged Encounter is an international marriage preparation program developed over 40 years ago.  In the Diocese of Owensboro, Engaged Encounter is an overnight retreat starting Saturday morning and ending Sunday afternoon at Gasper River Catholic Retreat Center near Bowling Green, KY.

What happens during the retreat?

The Catholic Engaged Encounter weekend contains five interrelated themes: The Family we grew up in, Sacramental Marriage, Communication, Intimacy, and Values. These themes are woven into several talks, focused not on the wedding day, but about a married couple living their life together. “A Wedding is a Day, A Marriage is a Lifetime”. The talks are presented by a priest and married couples in a group setting. The engaged couples are then given “couple time” to focus on each other, writing after each talk, sharing their writings with each other, and discussing their thoughts and feelings with each other in a safe and loving setting.

What’s the Schedule?

Engaged Encounter retreat starts at 8:00 am Saturday morning. We ask that you arrive no later than 7:30am to get your belongings to your room so as to be in the conference room by 8:00am. The retreat will conclude mid-afternoon on Sunday.
