For the past few months, the Diocese of Owensboro and the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph have been collaborating to celebrate the life and missionary work of Father Paul Joseph Volk, the founder of Mount Saint Joseph and an important figure in the diocese’s history. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Father Volk in 1919.

To commemorate Father Volk’s legacy, a special concert, titled In the Footsteps of Paul Volk: A Musical Travelogue on His Writings, will be held at the Mount Saint Joseph Motherhouse Chapel on Tuesday, March 19 at 6:30 p.m. The concert will be based on Father Volk’s personal letters (which have been preserved in the Mount Saint Joseph Archives) documenting his travels as a missionary in Kentucky and in both South and Central America. Few people in the past 100 years have seen these letters, which describe in detail Father Volk’s commitment to evangelization and the dangers, poverty and loneliness that often accompanied his work.

The concert is free and open to the public.
