Award Criteria

Jesus spent His life helping, including, and calling others to follow Him.  The Sister Audrey Mary Gold Award is given to a person, or group, who works to ensure that everyone who wants to serve their parish by taking an active role in their Church community is welcomed, encouraged, and helped to participate in all aspects of the Church as much as they are able. The recipient works to eliminate barriers that would hinder this participation because of a disability.

The recipient is one who also inspires others to do the same such as parents of children with disabilities to attend religious education classes, receive the sacraments, and participate in Church stewardship to the best of their abilities.

Jesus called the most unlikely to follow Him and sought out and listened to those who were different and not always accepted by society.

When asked by John’s disciples, “Are You the one who is to come or do we look for another?” Jesus answered, “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard, the blind regained their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them (Mt. 11:3-5).”  In this passage of the Gospel Jesus shows His great love for those who are disabled and His desire that they are actively involved in ministry.

The recipient of this award is a person or group who shows compassion and understands that, regardless of ability, all are called to serve in our parish.  The person, or group, works to make active participation in parish life a reality for all those who wish to serve.
