Maximize Discipleship Course: TOB & the Holy Spirit

When did you last make time to immerse yourself in an enriching retreat? To focus on maximizing your relationship with God and others? To reflect on the impact your Catholic Faith has on every aspect of your life?

MAXIMIZE is a 5-night/6-day Discipleship Retreat Course addressing the issues of our day through the lens of Saint John Paul II’s Theology of the Body. Come … discover your story as we break open the story of salvation and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

This retreat-style course will be held at Gasper River Catholic Youth Camp & Retreat Center, located just fifteen minutes from Bowling Green, Kentucky. Accommodations at Gasper River Retreat Center are dorm style twin-size bunk beds with comfortable, Tempur-pedic style mattresses. Women will stay in one building and men in another. In addition to the course, the following will be included: overnight accommodations, adoration, confession & daily Mass, study guide, daily meals {Sunday dinner through Friday lunch}, and plenty of time for fellowship, relaxation, as well as communal and personal prayer & reflection.

Course presenter John Sohl serves full-time as the Director of Discipleship for Family Renewal Project. He is a graduate of Western Kentucky University who loves hunting, fishing, hiking, theater, videography, and playing baseball. John has attended and led pilgrimages to the last 5 World Youth Days: Madrid, Spain; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Kraków, Poland; Panama City, Panamá; and Lisbon, Portugal (accompanied by his wife, Crystal). In March 2022, John became the first and remains the only person in the Archdiocese of Louisville to complete his master’s level coursework [eight 30-hour immersion courses, testing, papers, and an in-depth practicum] and receive the distinguished Certification in Theology of the Body from the TOB Institute — a major accomplishment! Together, John and his wife, Crystal, strive to understand, embrace, and live Theology of the Body! They were married in October of 2019 and after four years of infertility, they welcomed their first child (a daughter) in September of 2024.

Spiritual advisor Fr. Chris Kight is a priest for the Diocese of Owensboro, KY, where he is currently the parochial vicar at St. Joseph Parish in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
