Rite of Election

For 2021, with the safety of all in mind, Bishop Medley is delegating to pastors of parishes to preside at the celebration of the Rite of Election for catechumens (a mandatory rite for non-baptized) and Call to Continuing Conversion for candidates (an optional rite for baptized candidates).

The Rite of Election is to be celebrated on the First Sunday of Lent, February 21, 2021. Please review the script as it includes adaptations for when a parish priest is presiding, taking into consideration the pandemic.

Only the catechumens are to sign the signature page for the Elect, not the baptized candidates, godparents, or sponsors. Please mail back to the Office of Worship so it may be placed in the diocesan Book of Elect:

Please complete the RCIA Parish Form for 2021, or use the online form below, and email it back to [email protected] by the First Sunday of Lent, February 21st, if possible.

Important: The Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions (FDLC) is hosting a free webinar for parishes on how to celebrate the Rite of Election well in the parish this year. This will be held on January 19th at 1:00 PM. Please visit www.fdlc.org/formation to register.
