In order to continue serving as a Catechist or Catholic School Religion Teacher, you must continue toward advanced certification to be received within six years of your start/hire date. A total of 60 hours is required, which includes the ten hours for basic certification. You need a total of 18 hours in the Catechist dimension, 24 in the Content dimension and 18 in the Pastoral dimension. You may go back five years to fill in these hours or even further if you have a college degree where courses in these dimensions were completed. Courses that go toward a certificate which are taken at accredited institutions also count toward Advanced Certification.
